Self-Love starts within! It's essential to maintain a healthy mental state of mind. It's easy to slip into a depression or develop other mental disabilities, especially when you don't have a support system. Although a support system can be VERY beneficial, it is not necessary; you just need a strong mind, your own will, and a plan!

1. Understand your goals.

If you need to, it may be a good idea to write a list of every goal you want to achieve and make it a priority by giving your goals a specified time-frame.

Whether you intend to improve your character or want to move in a different direction within your career, it's never too late! Acknowledge and clarify your goals and find out what they mean to you. In the long run, these goals you set may help you in more ways than one. However, you must COMPLETE said goals to have more options! The sky is the limit, don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise!

2. Recognize patterns in your life and learn how to manage them.

When confronted with situations or conflict you've been in before, something I find that helps me is to try to resolve the problem differently to get better results.

Life will always throw curve balls at us! Think of these curveballs as life lessons because they come at us whether we like it or not. How you handle situations is totally up to you! Nonetheless, if you "make the wrong decision" when put in a particular position, the most important thing is not to make that same mistake again. You can overcome ANY situation, although it may not feel like it at the time.

Remember this: It's not what happened to you; it's how you react after the situation, that's important!

Life will repeatedly put you in the same situation. Until we decide to pick a different route, things will continue to just "happen to us".

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results"

~Albert Einstein.

3. Be in tune with your conscious and subconscious mind (Know yourself).

You know yourself more than anyone else, and if you don't, you should start learning today! In doing so, this helps to navigate through life, making better choices for ourselves. We're not going to dive deep into the conscious and subconscious mind in this post. However, I will say that the conscious mind is more aware of things that happen around us and controls how we process information. The subconscious mind controls our actions and feelings. If you feel something is not right, that is your subconscious mind talking to you. You may want to reanalyze the situation (in doing so, we use the conscious mind). When your subconscious mind tells you something, it's best to listen to it! Think about how that particular situation will affect and where you will stand based on the potential outcome.

Remember: You may only have a split second to evaluate your position, so be wise about your decisions.

4. Remove toxicity from your life at any chance.

Toxic people will try to bring you down. There's always going to be people that challenge you. For example, some people always think negatively. If you are one of those people, this isn't necessarily a bad thing! I will say that people who aren't as negative don't always want to be around someone who thinks in a negative light all the time. Then again, some people don't mind! Knowing who you are will help you determine what kind of people you'd want to & should be around. Some people give you a new perspective on things, some people communicate differently, and some are always lively. It is essential to know what type of people you bring into your energy. Not just categorizing a group of personalities, but get to know people on an individual basis. Not everyone will like you, and you won't like everyone, this is a harsh reality. Still, we have to co-exist with other personalities. The moment you feel a person is toxic for you, you should distance yourself. Allowing a toxic person to consistently reassure you that they're toxic, is only hurting yourself! It will be your fault for how your energy has changed for the worst. Once your energy is tampered with toxicity, it can be very difficult to remove it; much like a virus on a computer. Make other's toxicity be your motivation instead! Don't keep these people around.

Remember: Not all people are toxic, but it would be in your best interest to pick out the "bad apples" ASAP! Whether they are a friend or a family member. You can love others from a distance. Just don't wait until it's too late!

5. It's important to say no and put yourself first.

Saying "No" may be difficult for some and not so much for others. Either way, there are times you need to say, NO! You don't want to stress yourself out just because you agreed to do something for someone. I'm not saying don't' fulfill your agreements, but if you know a task will be too much for you, you should immediately let that person or group know before they feel let down! When I say, say, "No", I mean before you agree to something. Think twice before agreeing to a task you know will be too much to handle. You may end up not being any good or use for yourself or those around you.

Remember: You can't help others unless you help yourself first.

Overwhelming yourself when you could have just said no could affect your health by creating stress. You can develop anxiety on top of stress, produce grey hair prematurely, or even worst, start to see HAIR LOSS! All of this because you may feel the pressure of not meeting everyone's expectations. Ultimately, the art of saying "No" protects your energy and your overall health!

6. Slow down.

Taking a step back and slowing down from your reality can help to see things more clearly. When in the moment, reality can be blurry, even though it may not seem that way. Every once in a while, It could be a good idea to detach- from social media, friends, family, just to really enjoy and get to know yourself. This may be hard to do at first, but you can do it! Detaching allows you to watch things play out right in front of your eyes; you'll see things you didn't know were there. During this time, you may learn more about where you are in life, where you're headed, how your actions affected others, and even how peoples' actions were affecting you. You may be surprised by what you discover.

7. Don't compare yourself to others.

Comparing your life to others is a sure way to make a person feel insecure. There will always be someone smarter, more good looking, and more favorable than you. Comparing can cause you to battle with yourself, and people can feel this energy too. Embrace your flaws, and do what makes you happy! Whether that means changing your appearance or doing something spontaneous. Just because you don't see people's insecurities or problems at the fore-front, does not mean they are nonexistent. Don't' forget, comparing can only hurt one person in the end, and that's you!

8. Always remember it could be worst.

There is someone always doing worst than you, just how someone's always doing better than you. Don't sit around feeling sorry for yourself. Know that others are going through more challenging situations. Be thankful for what you have and where you're going!

9. Forgive yourself.

There's no need to hold on to history you can't change. Relieve yourself of the baggage you've packed, and stop blaming yourself, it's called forgiveness! No matter how big or small.

10. Love yourself.

It is vital that we love ourselves. Loving yourself involves nourishing your body, indulging yourself with your essential daily nutrients, sleeping well, exercising, and being aware of the energy around you. Food is fuel, and yes, it can be costly to be healthy, but your body WILL thank you! Getting the right amount of sleep allows you to be more productive and puts you in a better mood versus someone who doesn't get their needed rest. Exercising can affect the way we love our body too! Exercising affects our mood and our weight. Speaking of weight, weight can also be affected by the stresses of daily activities and the energy put out by the people who we surround ourselves with. Protecting your energy will defend the body as a whole. If you don't treat your body with respect, the effect from the body's lack of attention can have a ripple effect. So Love your body, and only then will you know what self-love feels like!
